On April 23, WHAS-11 TV honored Bridgepoint’s own art teacher Cathy Gruninger as the 2014 WHAS-11 ExCEL Award winner. WHAS-11 news anchor Gary Roedemeier was on hand to present Cathy with the famous gold apple and a $1,000 teacher grant, sponsored by LG&E KU, to use for her art classes. Cathy earned a Bachelor of Arts from Carroll University and a Master of Arts from Indiana University Southeast. She has been an art teacher with Greater Clark County Schools for 24 years. Cathy stated, “My 24 years of teaching art in Greater Clark County Schools have been extremely rewarding. I have been given an art room at each school and my principals have been very supportive. My students explore art from various cultures and see their projects displayed each week around the building. They take pride in their work and excitedly ask when they can come to my room next to build, design, and create their next masterpiece.” Cathy has also been active in the community by participating in the Jeffersonville Arts Alliance for the past two years to plan, organize, and carry out art workshops for community members. The organization has completed eight workshops and have had hundreds of Jeffersonville residents involved in the making of their installations, including permanent and temporary art pieces in Jeffersonville City Hall, Clark Memorial Hospital, the downtown area, GCCS Administration Building, and a nearby community garden. CONGRATULATIONS, Mrs. Gruninger!
